15 Birthday Children’s Books

My son’s second birthday is coming up on January 30th and I realized I had to check my book bins for all of my birthday books! To my surprise, I had way more than I thought I did. I noticed that when I taught kindergarten I never actually read a birthday book on anyone’s birthday? They were mostly just used in lessons that went along with our weekly objectives.

This made me a little sad.

The truth is, as a teacher, there is a plan behind everything. If you are teaching cause and effect and a book you want to read doesn’t go perfectly with that objective, you pick a different book.

As a parent, this gives you the chance to have these special moments with your child.

Don’t pass them up!

Below you will find a mix of paperback & board books that are all birthday themed. These are perfect books to read the few weeks leading up to your little one’s big day OR the perfect books for family members to give as gifts!

As much as I would like to own ALL the books in the world, sadly, I don’t. You’ll see the list of books I recommend and own as well as a wish list of books I discovered recently that I would LOVE to try! Enjoy!

I love every book by Leslie Patricelli and so does my (almost) 2 year old! This books shows all the fun things you can do with the box your present comes in. My Birthday Book Wish List

Happy Birthday, Cupcake!

I absolutely love this author. I am the proud owner of Peanut Butter & Cupcake as well as Milk Goes to School. They were my two favorite books to read to my students at the beginning of the school year and I can’t WAIT to check out Happy Birthday, Cupcake!

What’s a cupcake to do when she needs to plan her birthday party? In this hilarious, kid-friendly homage to food and birthdays, Cupcake runs through tons of ideas while her best friend, Blueberry Muffin, finds reasons why they won’t work: Soup gets seasick; Donut melts in the sun; someome might get squashed during musical chairs; and Cupcake is not very good at limbo (her icing might get sliced off!). Just as Cupcake is ready to crumble, Blueberry Muffin has one last idea that just might save the day.
